Stony Stratford Lawn Tennis Club
The Ancell Trust Sports Ground • Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes • MK11 1AR
Our 2026 tournament came to a close on Saturday evening marking a very successful week for the club and many of our members. Thank you for all your patience during the week when, apart from early morning or late evening, the courts have been off limits to those members not competing. It was good to see the courts back in the hands of our members yesterday morning in the sunshine, with all nine courts in use.
Our G3 has gone grown bigger and better year on year. With 255 visiting competitors in 2025 increasing to 353 this year, we are now just about at capacity, drawing players from all over the country. Well over 1000 people walked through our gates this week. Most exciting was the success for our own Stony members in events right from U8 through to Adult. Details of all the results and winners will follow later from John Cavill.
We are indebted to all those members that volunteered for kitchen duties. All those that kindly helped are listed below. Please thank them personally when you see them. They really make a difference to the success of the event making an impact for the club. Providing a kitchen menu is a pre-requisite for a tournament such as this. We are yet to work out all the takings (our Treasurer is up in Northumberland playing golf!) but it is likely to exceed all that we did in 2025, providing another decent injection of cash to the club. The compliments we receive are also always encouraging, and to hear we do it better than most.
A couple of other items. The internal Club Championships entries are now open until 8th May. Please email sandaburn@hotmail.com now, or sign up on the sheets on the club noticeboards (after 10th April). Assuming a minimum of 8 entries for each draw, there will be Open Ladies’ and Men’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed, O45 and O60s Ladies’ and Men’s Singles and O60s Ladies’, Men’s and Mixed Doubles. Finals this year are on Sunday 6th September.
The Air Dome will be removed this Thursday 9th April. Use of the dome is free whilst it remains up, and the two courts will be closed during Thursday morning for it to be put away.
Finally, there will be a few more American tournaments this summer open to all Full members, including one on Wimbledon Finals Saturday 11th July, to coincide with the Beer and Prosecco festival at next door’s cricket club. Look out for entry details closer to the events.
With best wishes,
Your Club Committee
