SSLTC news - some exciting opportunities to play tennis

Dear [[firstname]] [[lastname]]
We have a couple of exciting updates from the club and more opportunities to play some tennis.

Free elite doubles coaching from Active Away

We are planning to host an Active Away Open Day at Stony Stratford Tennis Club on Wednesday, 26th March, featuring free doubles coaching sessions from the experts at Active Away – known for their top-tier coaching at 5-star resorts!

If you would be interested in attending? Here are the details:

?? Date: Wednesday, 26th March

? Session 1: 6:30–8:00 PM

? Session 2: 8:00–9:30 PM

?? Capacity: 18 players per session (1 session per person)

This is a great opportunity to improve your doubles game with elite coaching – completely free! If enough members are keen, we’ll organize the event. Let us know if you’d like to join! Look out for the posters in the clubhouse. First come, first served.

We can certainly recommend Active Away for tennis holidays with personal experience staying in a beautiful hotel in Corfu in 2024. A relaxed week playing a few hours each day, avoiding the mid day heat, with plenty of time to enjoy the pool, beach, explore the pot throwing festival in Corfu old town, and even catch a ferry over to the amazing Roman city of Butrint in neighbouring Albania.

SSLTC Centenary at AELTC

I wrote before Christmas saying we had been invited to take a small group to visit Wimbledon on Wednesday 20th August this year. Specifically we have been invited to take four mixed adult pairs to play tennis on the hallowed grass courts. Also invited are eight of our non-playing club volunteers or officials. We will given a tour of the museum, watch a live display from Rufus the Hawk and enjoy playing tennis on the two courts allocated to us. The day will conclude with a champagne reception and cocktail party with canapes and small eats. It is planned that we would hire a coach to take sixteen lucky attendees from the club, at a cost that should under cut independent travel or staying overnight in a hotel.

Obviously this is going to be hugely popular. We plan to poll members later in the spring for you to opt in to a ballot. Four ladies and four men will then be balloted for places. Similarly, the eight non-playing club volunteers will be balloted from those keen to go.

Those attending will be expected to adhere to the AELTC club’s strict dress code both on and off court.

SSLTC Grade 3 Tournament 6th -12th April

Again this year we will be holding this prestigious tournament at the club in early April. We appreciate all your patience during the week when the club will effectively be closed to (non-competing) members through the day time, but hopefully some of you will enter the events which are open to adults and U18s. Look out soon for a plea for help as we will need to operate a kitchen and bar service through the week, and hope that many of you will volunteer for a kitchen shift please.

Club Championships

In March the sign-up sheets for the annual club tournaments will be put up on the noticeboards. As usual there will be knockout open singles, doubles, mixed plus O45 and O60 categories with the draws made in May and the finals to be played on Sunday 7th September. A reminder will be sent out when entries are open.

Air Dome

We hope you are enjoying the Air Dome during these long dark grey days. Clearly you are not being put off by the weather. January was a record month for floodlight use, both with member private bookings and with clubnight, which is great to see. The dome will be in place through February and March and is scheduled to come down, subject to the weather, on 31st March.

With best wishes,

Simon Burn
Club Chair
