Centenary Wimbledon visit and Club Bar

Dear Adult Club member,

Member's ballot for SSLTC Centenary Celebrations at Wimbledon - 20th Aug 2025

A quick reminder and follow up to the email you received on the 2nd May. If you wish to be included in the ballot for one of eight places to play at Wimbledon on the 20th August as part of our Centenary celebrations, then you have until Friday 30th May to complete the form link below. Currently only about 25% of those eligible have responded (More details of the day at the bottom of this email).

Club Bar

We are keen to get more volunteers to hold keys to the club bar. The more members that have keys, the more often the bar can be open for the benefit of all. We are not asking you to do rotas, just if you are down, and you and others fancy a drink (soft or otherwise) the bar can be opened. Those volunteering will need to be trained (likely to be early June) on the licensing laws as it pertains to our Club Premises licence, understand things like Check25, the refusal log, and how to operate our card payment system. It would be great if we had a representative from each of the club teams and social roll ups so we have most bases covered. If you think you can help, please respond to me at sandaburn@hotmail.com or contact Mark Squires at mark@rbfinance.co.uk.

AELTC visit - more details

If you are drawn, during the 20th August, there will be opportunities to tour the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and grounds, eight SSLTC members to enjoy playing tennis and watch a special live display from Rufus the Hawk. The day will conclude with a Champagne reception and cocktail party, with canapés and bowl food. In the event of bad weather, tennis will take place in the Indoor Tennis Centre, a superb six-court facility, and courts may be shared with other invited clubs. Guest arrive at 13:20 and Carriages are at 21.30.

The club intends to hire a small coach to take all sixteen Stony guests from the club and back for which there will be a charge of around £50. This is likely to be the only cost for the day, excluding any personal purchases you might make in the AELTC shop.

Dress code for players for both warm up and play is strictly white, including shoes, tracksuits, socks, sweaters and headwear. Don’t make the mistake as our current club captain did a few years ago of turning up to play in cream. You will be sold some expensive white alternatives on the spot! Dress code during the day off court, is smart casual (no jeans or trainers). For the cocktail reception dress code is jacket and tie, or ladies’ equivalent, for all guests. You will therefore need three sets of clothes during the visit!

With best wishes,

Simon Burn
